WHAT IS CONCRETE RESURFACING AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

Concrete Resurfacing” or a “Concrete Overlay”, is a very durable, versatile and hard-wearing product used to resurface concrete for both interior and exterior applications. It is made up of high strength cement, selected sands and top quality polymer resins and is a permanent surface. Unlike other topical coatings which can flake and wear off in a short space of time.

There are many brands on the market under different labels, but they all do pretty much the same thing. At OSM Concrete, we are experienced in most of the brands available and have identified the ideal concrete resurfacing solutions for the Gold Coast.

With Concrete Resurfacing, the design possibilities are HUGE.

INCREDIBLY VERSATILE

As the products are applied as a liquid, we can manipulate them to mimic a lot of other traditional and higher-end finishes. Architects and designers are now turning their attention to concrete resurfacing as an alternative to surfaces such as segmental paving, natural stone, exposed aggregate, tiles, other decorative concrete finishes… even timber!

With an array of vivid colour options designed by the suppliers to match what is used with other product lines such as roofing, garage doors, aluminium and paint finishes, you can design your concrete to really blend with what you have already used on your project.

CAN CRACKS BE FIXED???
YES AND NO… IT’S A BIT COMPLICATED

Cracks in concrete can be caused by many reasons including:

  • Lack of expansion joints installed at the time of placing
  • Ground settlement and movement from underneath the slab

This could be from numerous causes including:

  • Tree roots
  • Broken pipes
  • Tremors from traffic
  • Drying shrinkage
  • Thermal expansion/contraction
  • Lack of reinforcement
  • Inadequate concrete strength

When concrete cracks structurally, it is essentially broken in two along the crack.

Once it has opened, no cost-effective or full-proof system has been developed that can join and hold slabs together.

Huge Design Options

Resurfacing products can be coloured and manipulated when applied to create some amazing textures and designs.

FAQ: Commercial Concrete on the Gold Coast

What is the difference between commercial and civil concreting?

Commercial concreting encompasses projects such as car parks, retail entries, warehouses, and body corporate works. Civil concreting typically relates to council and public infrastructure, including footpaths, kerbs, drainage systems, and community spaces. OSM Concrete specialises in both, ensuring every job is delivered to Queensland codes and council standards.

Do you work with body corporates and strata managers?

Yes. We regularly provide concrete resurfacing, driveway replacements, and shared-area upgrades for body corporate and strata complexes. Our team minimises disruption for residents while ensuring long-term safety and durability.

What safety and compliance standards do you follow?

OSM Concrete is QBCC-licensed, ISO-aligned in safety and quality, and fully insured for commercial and civil projects. We meet all Queensland building codes and council specifications, and conduct regular on-site safety audits.

How long does a commercial concrete project take?

Timelines vary depending on the size and scope. A small retail entry may take a few days, while a large car park or industrial slab could take several weeks. Once we review your plans, we provide a detailed project schedule so you know exactly what to expect.

Can you provide decorative or exposed aggregate finishes for commercial jobs?

Absolutely. We offer a wide range of exposed aggregate, coloured, stamped, and polished finishes that combine durability with visual appeal. These are particularly popular for retail plazas, theme parks, and high-traffic public spaces.

Do you handle project approvals with the council?

Yes. Our team has extensive experience liaising with Gold Coast City Council and surrounding authorities. We streamline approvals, inspections, and compliance checks, helping keep your project on track and stress-free.
